Our Story
The Soldiers Cut is a venture born from the esteemed Jumbuck Meats Gourmet Butchery in Oatley NSW led by Ray Wood Jnr, who started the business in 2012.
Jumbuck Meats Gourmet Butchery has since soared to new heights as one of the most awarded Small Businesses in New South Wales, winning ten out of the past twelve year – Best Butchery in the St George area, along with Best Business in St George in 2018. The shop was then awarded Best Butchery at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards in 2020 and 2022, making it the most awarded butchery in NSW from 2012 to 2024 in the small business awards.
From this success, the business was able to continue to grow both the wholesale and retail sides. In the end, outgrowing the retail space.
Ray then had the idea of expanding to a wholesale space and founded - The Soldiers Cut.
With Ray’s father serving for the Australian Defence Force in the Vietnam war over two tours, Ray Jnr has always had a soft spot for returned veterans. Piecing this together with the one of the main wholesale customers being RSL’s, Ray then came with an idea to build a wholesale business that supported and employed returned veterans.
Hence, The Soldiers Cut was born.
Not only do we cut the best quality meat, but the soldiers get a cut of everything that we do!
